LANBI has supplied a 33-tonne electric press, specifically designed for the crimping of steering inner ball joints.

The equipment has been engineered to provide the required force, displacement control and process repeatability during the crimping operation. The machine is designed to ensure consistent deformation of the housing, getting the dimensional and functional requirements of the steering component.

A key feature of the press is its ability to perform the crimping operation using two different pressing control strategies: force-controlled or position-controlled pressing. Depending on the requirements of the application, the process can therefore be controlled either by reaching a predefined target force or by achieving a specific press position.

In a departure from LANBI’s usual approach to this type of application, the crimping process in this machine is carried out with the ball joint positioned underneath, adapted to meet the customer’s requested process orientation.
